Hands on Hort Mt Lofty Botanic Garden
Helen Milne - as Coordinator, my mobile phone no. is 0407 513 540. HOH at Mt Lofty is held on the first Thursday morning of each month starting at approximately 9:00 am and ending by 12 noon.
We work in the Rock Garden doing weeding and dead-heading, and often assisting with planting. We also can be called on to work in the Woodland Garden.
The Rock Garden was in the Master Plan for the Garden formulated by Landscape Architect, Allan Correy, and was in existence when the Garden opened to the public in November 1977.
Hands on Hort Adelaide Botanic Garden: volunteers work weekly under the supervision of ABG staff assisting with basic garden maintenance in the Adelaide Botanic Garden. A great way to get to know the plants of the gardens, their needs and habits. Please contact The Friends for further information, 8222 9367, friendsabg@internode.on.net..
Hands on Hort Wittunga Botanic Garden
The Wittunga House grounds began as an English style cottage garden but the original owners Edwin Ashby and later his son Keith, became interested in the more climate friendly Australian and South African plants.
When the Ashby family donated Wittunga as a Botanic Garden to the State of South Australia, the House grounds were fenced off from the visitors section. However, the Gardens’ staff are still responsible for its maintenance. Volunteers are required to be members of the Friends of Botanic Gardens of Adelaide so that they are covered by its insurance and the Botanic Gardens work protocols and practices.
The volunteer group meet every Tuesday between 9am and 1pm - weather permitting.
If you can spare some time on any Tuesday morning and would like to help, contact Helena Jenkinson on 8326 0768.
